Generally, the additive is some kind of grit, like ground-up walnut shells, industrial grit, plastic abrasives, or aluminum oxide. The grit doesn't have to be large; it just has to be enough to give the coating or paint some kind of "grab" to it. That grab is what gives your employees will use for traction as they walk along, as will any forklifts or other industrial vehicles that may also be part of your factory. 

Application

The application of anti-skid coatings or paints is generally a multi-step process. There are several reasons for this. One is that the grit can clog up nozzles of paint sprayers. The grit can also mean that the coating won't go on as smoothly as it should, and this can mean that it won't last as long as it should. Generally, the way application works is that the paint or coating is laid down. Before it dries, the grit is applied. This needs to be done before the bottom coat dries so that the grit will stick and stay where it belongs. After the grit has been applied and the bottom coat has been dried, a top coat will be applied. That coat is a protectant. It keeps the grit where it is and helps everything stay in one place. It also makes sure that you won't have to apply the coating too often. Since the grit already creates an uneven surface, the coating shouldn't even the surface out.
